Hope is not currently up for adoption
I have just been made aware of an advertisement in the Horse Deals magazine for Hope. This is a mistake and Hope is currently not for adoption. Please note that all of my horse deals advertisements say "Free under a life time adoption contract" and my website is also posted in the advertisement. I'm not sure how her ad ended up in horse deals and their office is currently closed, but Hope is still needing a hernia operation and is still a while off being ready for adoption.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
This is the last post before Christmas and I want to wish each and every one of you a wonderful, safe Christmas and New Year. I hope that 2011 brings amazing adventures and wonderful experiences to everyone.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for EVERY donation that we received this year. Whether it was the donation of an item, donation of time or the purchase or a raffle ticket you have helped me, the team at SAHA and the horses more than you know and for that I am forever grateful. Thank you so much.
In 2010 we have rescued 41 horses from slaughter, abuse or neglect and we have successfully re-homed 19 of those horses. One dear mare "Mustang Sally" was laid to rest and we still have 21 horses in care receiving treatment. This number of horses wouldn't have been so great if it wasn't for your ongoing love and support. We at SAHA didn't rescue these horses alone, we did it with your help and support.
In 2010 we also lost a beautiful mare who was rescued in 2009 "Brandy". She was with us for 10 months and we fought our hardest to save her. Sadly, god wanted her and we had to listen. RIP to Brandy and Sally ~ both are loved and will never be forgotten.
2011 will be a new year with new goals and new adventures but one thing is for sure ~ there will be many more lost, unwanted souls needing a loving home. We are hoping to have our charity approved as a tax deductible gift recipient in the new year and will be able to offer tax receipts to those people who wish to donated some money. We will also be holding some fundraising events and raffles which is all exciting and we have already had some amazing prizes donated. Thank you to the many people who have donated these items, you are all amazing.
If you would like to help the horses in some way now please feel free to donate some money towards our ever growing vet account (I have posted details below) or have a look in our "wish list" for items that we are always needing. In 2011 and will be holding a "winter rug" drive as well to get some winter rugs in ready for the cold season.
Thank you once again to absolutely everyone who has donated, helped, supported SAHA, myself and the team. xxx

Rescue Horse of the Week
This week our rescue horse of the week is Hopey Dopey. Hope was advertised for sale from Brian Munro for $100 and i couldn't go past her beautiful face. She was almost two years old and a TB filly but was the size of a small weanling (11.2hh). She arrived on the 31st of July and my vet said he would be surprised if her muscles developed properly due to extreme starvation.
I wormed her, vaccinated her and turned her out into the paddock for 6 weeks with Ma to learn to trust and heal her broken heart. She would come up for attention but if you reached out to touch her she would run away. After 6 weeks I decided it was time for her to come into the handling yard for some handling. Catching her was a complete mission and she would fight and resist. I ended up with massive rope burn and she ended up with some skin off her leg but after a good hour she walked happily up to the stables with me.
After some grooming, baths and lots and lots of love and treats Hopey is now a massive sook, loves human attention and will walk all over you for cuddles. She gets jealous of other horses and rubs herself all over anyone and everyone. She definitely needs to learn some ground manners.
Hopey is having her hernia surgery next week than she will be rested for a little longer before going up for adoption. She is now 2 years old,14.2hh and will make an awesome little horse for someone.

Hope should be ready for adoption around Feb/March 2011. She will be posted in the horses for adoption section of this website when she is ready.
We are now at full capacity
We are currently extremely full with 21 rescue horses in care. Sadly, we do not have room for any more this year but if you have a horse you need re-homed and were thinking of surrendering please let me know and I can help you re-home it.
There is the perfect home out there for every horse.
There is the perfect home out there for every horse.
New Rescue horses
We have 4 new rescue horses coming into care:
1. 18 year old ex Paralympics horse named Diaz. He has nasty hoof abscesses and chronic Laminitis, is 16.3hh and will be going out to our Allanview rehab centre. Surrendered on the 18th Dec 2010 and we are currently arranging transport to have him picked up. He will be assessed by our vet as soon as he arrives.
Photo taken by old owner
2. 9 year old, 16.3hh TB gelding named Yogi. Surrendered on the 16th of December. Sydney horse transport picked him up today and he is currently in their holding yards in Bundal and will be delivered to our Allanview rehab centre on Monday. He has a nasty hoof issue as well and will be assessed by our vet on arrival.
Photo taken by old owner
3. Abbey is an aged 20+ Arab mare in very very poor condition. She is also a surrender from a lady in Ipswich. This mare is currently running on 800 acres and we are currently trying to arrange transport. She is about 14hh and im not sure on what colour. We don't have any photos yet. Hoping to have her picked up on Tuesday and she will go into care with Vicki and Mark at Yatala Produce before coming back to our Gilston Rehab centre. She will have her teeth done etc as soon as she gets to Yatala Produces property. Will post photos soon.
4. Jade is a young QH mare who was rescued back in Jan 2010 by a group called Soquilichi. This rescue than rehomed her to Farm Animal Rescue for rehabilitation. The lady at Farm Animals rescue did a good job of getting her weight up but sadly they couldn't fix her badly injured hoof (which is in need of attention). She was then re-homed to a lovely lady who surrendered her to SAHA. We are currently in the process of arranging transport and are hoping to have her next week for urgent hoof treatment. Will post updated photos when she arrives. Her old name was Becky.
This photo was given to me by her old owner and was taken in April 2010
I will post updated photos when she arrives.
Confucius (551-479 BCE) defined the meaning of Jade:
"The wise have likened jade to virtue. For them, its polish and brilliancy represent the whole of purity. Its perfect compactness and extreme hardness represent the sureness of intelligence. Its angles, which do not cut, although they seem sharp, represent justice. The pure and prolonged sound, which it gives forth when one strikes it, represents music. Its color represents loyalty. Its interior flaws, always showing themselves through the transparency, call to mind sincerity. Its iridescent brightness represents heaven. Its admirable substance, born of mountain and of water, represents the earth. Used alone without ornamentation it represents chastity. The price that the entire world attaches to it represents the truth. To support these comparisons, the Book of Verse says: 'When I think of a wise man, his merits appear to be like jade.'
We thought this mare deserved a strong meaningful name.
June is looking for a new home
JUNE
For adoption ~ June is a 22 year old TB mare who isn't suitable for riding. She was used as a broodmare before being thrown away as trash. June was rescued in June 2010 in very poor condition and has slowly put on weight well. She can't be just thrown in a paddock and forgotten about and will require feeding to maintain her weight. She is a lovely natured mare and would make a great companion for someone. June loves cuddles and affection especially when she is close to the house and in a small yard for grooming etc but also loves being in the paddock with the other mares. She can be bossy with other horses but is a sweetie at heart!! She can have attitude as well and needs a firm hand so she knows who is boss. If your looking for a nice companion horsey then give me a call ~ 0405053740 xxx ♥

We gave it 100% but sometimes that isn't enought..
When we bought Mustang Sally from the knackery we knew that it would be touch and go. Sally had a very large growth on her eye and after two vet assesments, a number of tests, one of the best eye specialists and a USA professor it has been decided that the tumor is extremely aggressive and to far advanced for surgery. We tried to reduce the size on the tumor with special cream but sadly it kept growing. She also have another smaller mass which has just started to grow on her upper lid. There is nothing more we can do. In the few weeks that we have had Sally she has shown so much love. From a very scared, untrusting horse to a relaxed, loving mare who will follow you around looking for treats.
Pray for Sally
Dear Lord, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.
Assign her to a place of honor,
for she has been a fighter
and fought her hardest until her last breath.
Bless the hands that send her to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing her from pain and suffering.
Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of her life
with the love she has shown me in such a short time.
And grant me the courage to honour her
by sharing those memories with others.
Let her remember me as well
and let her know that I will always love her and that I tried to save her.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow her to accompany those
who will bring me home.
Thank you, Lord,
for the gift of her companionship
and for the short time we've had together.
And thank you, Lord,
for granting me the strength
to give her to you now.
May your soul Rest In Peace Sally xxx

Blondie Has Had Surgery
Little Blondie had her surgery today to repair her locked stifle in both legs ~ Massive thank you to Michael Higgins from Nerang Equine Clinic for fitting her in even after being up all night treating Montego. She has two little stitches on both sides and will heal up in no time.
R.I.P Montego
Beautiful Monty was rescued in November 2009 from being put down because he was to "hot" for his current owner.. But Monty wasn't HOT at all, he was just being fed the wrong foods.. Monty was adopted by Cindy for her Boyfriend Pete to have and since Jan 2010 they have been one big happy family. Sadly, tonight Monty went down was severe colic and it wasn't an impaction ~ it was a front digestive problem. He was oiled but the oil came back up his nose and he was is huge pain, he was placed on fluids with no response. Michael who is our vet here at SAHA said there was nothing more that could be done. He was put to sleep 100% loved and will never be forgotten.
R.I.P beautiful boy you deserved all the love that Cindy and Pete showed you this year... You are a very special horse.
Please send Cindy lots of healing love and energy ~ she will need it. xxxx
BEYOND THE RAINBOW ~ Author Unknown
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, an on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful - lush and green and wide
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright glow pierced the night
"Twas the glow of many candles, shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in it's brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be
We are still connected by a cord no one can see
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart

Holiday Fun
Whiskey has gone over to Adonis and Monty's paddock for a few weeks of holiday fun while his eye is treated. Its much closer to the specialist vet needed to treat his eye cancer. Massive thank you to Cindy and Pete for transporting him into the vet today for treatment. xx
Sad News
Michael Higgins from Nerang Equine Vet Clinic has been to see Whiskey and sadly he has a Scrosis Carcinoma in his eye which is the same sort of Cancer that Sally has. Michael has said that we have caught it very earlier and the success rate for having it frozen off is quite high. Whiskey will be having this done on Monday. Sally could have also been treated if the cancer had of been caught earlier enough. We are still trying Cancer killing cream to reduce the size of Sally's Cancer but sadly it doesn't seem to be working. I will keep you posted on both of there progress.

A Quick Update on Horses Needing Medical Treatment
RYLEY ~ is booked into the Gold Coast Equine Centre for surgery on Thursday at 1pm, fingers crossed all goes well.
WHISKEY ~ Is being transported tomorrow for his vet appointment, second opinion and biopsy if needed ~ fingers crossed the small mass in his eye isn't cancer. If it is he will be booked into the Gold Coast Equine Centre for immediate surgery to have it removed.
SAMPY ~ Had his special shoes put on today and the farrier commented on what an amazing smart horsey he is. He will be transported from our Gilston rehab centre to our Allanview rehab centre to be rehabilitated with Marley who also has hoof issues.
MARLEY ~ Had xrays yesterday and has chronic laminitis, white line disease and two fractured petal bones ~ the farrier is assessing him today to fix him with special shoes. He is strapped up and on pain killers.
BLONDIE ~ Hasn't had her surgery yet and we have been waiting for fine weather because it can be done in the paddock. She is currently stabled so she can lay down in the wood shavings and be comfortable. She is taken out for slow walks and does special exercises to help with her locking stifle. Her pregenant belly is getting bigger and bigger. We are hoping for a nice day on Friday to do surgery.
SULLEY ~ Will be having cortisone injections into both legs to help his stifle lock, this will be happening the same day as Blondie's surgery. He will be rested for 2 weeks then sent somewhere for 4 weeks of work to build up the mucsle. This should help his stifle issues but he will only ever be suitable for pleasure riding.
SALLY ~ Sadly the tumor started to fall away and came away from the eye quite a lot, but after all the black bits dropped off there was more fleshy new bits growing. We are still trying the cream and praying but im starting to lose faith. She will now come right up to the stable door and take food from my hand. She follows me and carol everywhere and will let me stroke her nose but she still hates being caught. She is settling in and is learning to trust but if she gets a fright she is lightening fast and will jump on top of anyone in her way. She is just so scared. Im praying for a miracle.
HOPE ~ Is having her hernia surgery on the same day as Blondie and Sulley are having treatment. She will then go back to the paddock for a rest before being rehomed in the new year. She has an ever so slight amount of rain scald on her neck from the rain but this will heal up well.
MAX ~ Had his biopsy done last Friday and we will get the results back tomorrow. Then we will know how to treat him. He is a cheeky boy and so loving.
Caeser, June, Pinto, Helix, Bambi, Ma, Zena, Mary and Krystal are all going well.
MASSIVE THANK YOU ~ To Pricilla, Sandy, Steph, Karen, Cindy, Pete and Carol along with all vets ~ Louise Cosgrove (Exclusively Equine Veterinary Services) , Michael Higgins (Nerang Equine Practice), David and kelly (Veresdale Equine Veterinary Services) and the team operating on Ryley tomorrow (Gold Coast Equine Centre). Also, thank you to the team behind the vets!
Thank you to EVERYONE who bought raffle tickets, we will be drawing it tomorrow ~ good luck everyone, I wouldn't be able to do half as much without your ongoing love and support.. xxx
Thank you to everyone for your support xxx ♥

Sad News for Marley
I had xrays done on Marley today and the rescults were not good. Marley has chronic laminitis, white line disease and fractures in both petal bones and it has been like it for a VERY long time. It’s going to be a very long road to recovery for Marley. The farrier is booked in tomorrow to fix special shoes on him and he is on biotin supplement, rosehip herb, Chamomile and devils claw. He is also on pain medication. The vet will be moitoring him very closely but we have a long road ahead of us.
Massive thanks to Tim Heeb our corrective farrier for all of his hard work in fitting Marley's new hooves. His number is 0428 182200 if anyone is needing an awesome corrective farrier. Tim is located in Beadesert.
