RE-HOMED ♥

Its been a really busy weekend and I have re-homed 4 of my beautiful rescue TB'S.

Gabby was with me for 4 months, she arrived on the 20th of May 2010 really skinny, full of worms, covered in ticks and a nasty skin infection and was suffering from nasty bleeding ulcers. In 4 months she has come a very long way. Today 22/09/2010 she left for her new home with Jo Shaw, were she will start her education and her life. I will keep everyone up to date with her progress. Gabby is a very special filly and she will be greatly missed ~ *tears* of saddness to be losing her, but also of joy to see her going to an amazing home. Keep an eye out on the show scene for this amazing horse.

June arrived on the 5th of June ~ I named her after the month she was rescued. She was in poor condition and due to being 22 years old, she did put it on rather slowly. She has been a real character at home, and has brough personality and attitude to my paddocks. She just adores cuddles and ill miss her pushing everyone else out of the road to give me a cuddle. She has been adopted as a companion horse by Kylie who just loves her to bits. June left on Sunday and loaded up like a real lady without a problem. I will miss her so so much  ♥

Joe was only with me for 4 weeks ~ he was a surrender due to his owner not being able to care for him. I had his teeth, feet and chiro done, temperment assessed him and he was re-homed to the lovely lady who adopted Daisy at the beginning of the year. Massive thanks to Sheree who picked him up on Friday.  ♥ Carol fell in love with Joe and she cried when he left, tears of saddness and joy. Sheree is keeping him as a pleasure riding horse only and i think he is perfect for that.

Apollo was also only with me for about 4 weeks ~ he was also a surrender and after having his feet and chiro done was adopted out to Toni Brown who is picking him up on Sat. Thank you so much to everyone who has opened their heart and home for one of my amazing rescue horses. 4 beautiful, very happy endings.

Chance Has Retired With S.A.H.A

Chance was surrendered to me back in June when the young lady who rescued him from the knackery couldnt take care of him. He was bought by Rathdowney knackery on the 28th of May from the Grafton dogger sales. He was then bought from Rathdoney for $150 and later was surrendered to me. Little Chance'y is a 30 year old stallion and is way to old to geld. We have had him for adoption to the right home, but sadly no home has come up and many people have told me that i should have him put to sleep. At home, we only have 8 acres of land in a very residential area and my stallion yard and stable are very small and not suitable for a horse long-term. But, a lovely lady put her hand up and offered her property as she has a massive stallion paddock, but i would still have to fund his retirement. Yesterday the beautiful KT and Bridget transported Chance out to the new paddock on Karen's property and he just loves it there. He is an awesome little horse and im hoping that all goes well and he can live out his days in his new paddock.. The grass is so lovely but he has no teeth and will still require hard feeding.

1. Say NO the sale of horse meat for human consumption in Australia:

As most of you know, on the 1st of July a WA butcher was given the green light to sell horse meat in Australia. We are fighting to have this decission over turned.. Why?? For two reasons. Firstly, the way in which horses are killed has proven to be inhumain and violates the animal welfare act. Horses are killed for human consumption in the same way cattle are, however, the horses skull is structured differently with the brain situated further back in the head. So when a Captive bolt hits a horse is it not killed immediatly. The horse is then strung up and bled while its heart is still pumping. This process has been proven to cause extreme pain to the animal and in the USA it violated the humain slaughter act and horse slaughter was banned over there. The process is no different here in Australia and for horses to be killed this way violates everything that we stand for in Australia. Secondly, horses are not farmed for meat and they will be sourcing the stock from Knackery's, however, 90% of horses sent to knackery's are sent there due to illness or injury in which case there past owner would have medicated or treated the animal before using the last resort of sending the horse to become petfood. Therefore, the horses system will be full of drugs and medicated (bute the anti inflammatery never leaves a horses system and is very commonly used in the horse world) they are also full of infection or diseases. People have to remember that knackery's not only kill horses they kill sick and injured cattle and sheep that are not suitable for human consumption. A lady in QLD is currently doing a study to find out why our cats and dogs have an increased rate of cancers and if you saw what types of animals being slaughter make up their pet food you would understand, yet this WA butcher wants to use this meat to sell to humans.... We are flighting this head on and have informed the WA government of the violations this "green light" has created. We have also gone to Canberra and have minister of agriculture on our side.. But we still need help

PLEASE BRING ~ yourself and your horse if you can. We are hoping for 100 people and 40 horses at least. We can park our cars and horse floats on the reserve but care must be taken not to damage the ground at all or we will lose our bond.

2. I am supporting the campaign to save the Australian brumbies:

Australia has many thousands of wild brumby horses. Slaughtered from air and ground and left to die; tiny foals perish of starvation without their dams.

This is the shameful attitude of the Australian Government; it is barbaric and cruel and the carnage continues.
The small percentage of horses that are trapped ‘humanely’ are loaded onto trucks and transported to abattoirs. The terror of these wild horses as they face eventual death is horrific.
This is directly due to the failure of our Government to instigate a long term national management policy of control, preservation and protection for the Australian Icon, the Brumby Horse. This is the reality and we ask “Why”
In other nations wild horse sanctuaries and controlled breeding programs are an integral part of Government Policy; here, in Australia such policies are non-existent, bullets are the easy solution.
Save the Brumbies is a candlelight in the immense darkness that engulfs the Australian wild horse, we receive no Government Funding and we rely on a caring and aware public to continue our work. Come with us and share the dream, we ask you, “Why not?”

Rescue Horse of the Week ~ A very special story

Each week we will profile a rescue horse from the past with an update on how the horse is going now.. This week we will profile Jimmy and Benny as their stories are very closely related.

On the 18th of Jan 2010 a lovely lady named Hayley took on a rescue horse that someone was trying to re-home through my website. He was a STB gelding, in poor condition and desprately needing a new home. Hayley opened up her heart and home for this big fellow and she fell in love.

Hayley loved Jimmy so much and in no time he was a beautiful healthy boy.

But sadly on the 10th of April Jimmy went down with colic and there was nothing anyone could do. He was put to sleep, passing away 100% loved and he will always be missed.

Hayley was beside herself with grief but only 22 days later she was needed

Another STB gelding was about to be killed, he was in the holding yards with only a day before being sent to the meat works. A stunning 3 year old ex pacer, not broken to saddle, timid and in need. Hayley opened her home and her grieving heart to this little horse and with the help of S.A.H.A supporters we raised his "bail" and rescued his life. It took a little while for Hayley to bond with her new boy "Benny" but she broke him to saddle and she opened his heart, showing him love for the first time in his life and they now have an unbreakable bond. I believe that Jimmy's death was not in vain and that everything happens for a reason ~ sometimes one horse will pass but this will open up a door so that another horse can be rescued. This little horse would be on a dinner plate in France if it wasnt for Hayley, the S.A.H.A website and many of our wonderful, loyal supporters ~ also, if it wasnt for Jimmy's passing benny wouldnt have been rescued... RIP Jimmy boy, i know your looking over Benny and Hayley everyday with love.

Update on my rescue horses

Zoria ~ The beautiful Standerbred mare Zoria was placed into the paddock with the mares and she wasnt happy at all. She is nasty at feed time and will attack the other mares, so i put her into the paddock with Joe (TB gelding) and she is perfectly fine. I think she does much prefer her own paddock tho. She was lightly ridden and was lovely but very forward. I think she would make the perfect PC or sporting horse. She saw the Chiro who put her back and poll back into place and said that she was out pretty bad which was effecting her nervous system and since her visit she seems much happier. Her teeth were also in pretty bad shape and the dentist seemed to think they had never been done before. She is a lovely mare, will chase you down for a carrot and will beat the other horses up if they come near her food....

Joe ~ The beautiful TB gelding has settled in really well and just adores Carol. He follows her everywhere and i know she is getting attached as well. He is a little bit nervous on the ground and under saddle but a real sweet fellow. He also had his chiro appointment and was very tight. The chiro seems to think he has def. been abused at some stage in his life. But once you gain his trust, he is a big sook. Joe is ready for a new home now, he is healthy and suitable for someone experienced. Please see details in the "horses for adoption" section of this website.

Hope ~ Has put on weight well but still isnt responding well to human contact so im just letting her take her own sweet time. She needs time to rest and learn to trust me in her own time. It took Freya 6 months but she has come forward in leaps and bounds ~ Hope will as well. She didnt have a chiro appointment, i didnt think she was ready yet. The wonderful Jen Gallager is doing some aromatherapy with her which is really making a difference.. She is a dear little girl.

Grandma ~ Has been with us for 4 weeks now and has put on so much weight. She is really recovering faster than i thought she would. She has the most amazing, loving personality and has so much energy for an old horse. Her teeth were shocking and her hips were out but all put back into place now. She is feeling 100 times better and will be looking good in no time at all.

June ~ June also saw the chiro and her back was the worse out of all the rescue horses, she was very stiff and no doubt very sore. She is now ready for a new home and is listed in the horses for adoption section. June is retired and not suitable for riding. She has put on weight well but will need to be hard fed to maintain her weight.

Freya ~ Freya had her feet, teeth and chiro visit for the first time in her whole life and how very interesting it was. It took Sophie and I half the day to do her front ones on Friday, and on Monday her back feet were done. She was such a little lady and stod quitely while the dentist did her teeth with no gag, nothing but a file. I just cant believe how far she has come along ~ im so very proud of my beautiful girl.

Gabby ~ Im going to be so sad to see this girl go to a new home. Personality plus this little filly and she makes me laugh every single day. I just love her to bits... She had her teeth and chiro done as well and also stod quitely while it was done. She had no back problems and her teeth were not to bad, but they were done only 3 months ago when she arrived.

Helix ~ Its such a hard life being a naughty little pony :-)

Chance ~ Really didnt enjoy having his back cracked.. He played up something bad, but felt much better after it all. Sadly, no one has shown any interest in adopting little chance... :-(

Apollo ~ The silly little bugger was galloping around the paddock like a mad man, slipped over and with his hoof, banged his other hoof spliting it open.. He has had multi coloured bandages all week... But its healing nicely :-)

Krystal ~ Has recovered well from colic but is still suffering the odd nose bleed which is a worry. But she is very much loved and spoilt by Ryley and her family (who are fostering her). Krystal is retired with me but Ryley offered to take her home, creating more room for a new rescue horse at home. She is very special this mare and at 27 years old, she deserves only the best retirement possible.

Sampy ~ Is doing well in his foster paddock and will be brough home this week. I will post updated photos of him then.. :-)

Whiskey ~ Is doing really really well in his foster home and is very much spoilt

Benita & Bambi ~ Are both doing well in their foster home and its looking like they will be adopted by Raffles Lodge in Willowvale ~ only an amazing 6 million dollar property where all of the hollywood stars go to stay. The owner of the lodge is even building them their very own luxuary stables.
