We need your help!

Save a Horse Australia is desperately in need of donations. Because of the high cost of the horses currently out in foster homes, the bills are huge after sending out feed and vets to different locations where the horses are. SAHA has very large feed and vet bills and we need your help to try and pay off these debts. We ask if you could take part in donating $10 per week for the 4 weeks in September. If enough people take part, we can clear the vet bill and the feed bill and continue rescuing horses. Can you afford $10 per week this month? Our situation really is dire and we need some funds in order to keep our doors open. SAHA is a fully registered not for profit charity organization, fully sanctioned to do fundraising throughout Australia, all donations are tax deductible.

Our banking details are:

Please be sure to use your name as your reference and email us for your receipt. Thanking you in advance.

Mishka is needing a home

Mishka

Mishka is a stunning 25 year old TB mare who is looking for a semi retirement home but suitable for very light riding. She is a very forward mare with a big heart but at 25 years old she needs to semi retire. She would be suitable for trail riding lightly but no more than once per week. If she is being ridden she must have shoes on all 4 hooves at all times. Mishka has had some education in her time and is very very smart. She is suitable for an intermediate rider - experienced rider but no beginners. Mishka is a sweet mare and would make the perfect companion horse as well. She is about 15.3hh and a beautiful deep bay colour.

Adoption fee : $300

Please email saveahorseaustralia@yahoo.com.au for an adoption application form.

Urgent Donations Needed

Please guys, we are desperately seeking ongoing donations. Jen was kind enough to hold an online auction for us which cleared our $3000 monthly vet account and our $2700 feed bill. Sadly, we have racked those bills up again because we are just not getting the weekly donations that we need to keep the rescue afloat. We have 6238 members on this page and if only half of you donated just $2 per week that would cover all of our bills and free up our time and finances to rescue twice as many horses as we currently have in care. Imagine that? Twice as many horses lives being saved just by half of you donating just $2 per week..  What will $2 buy you? Not even a coffee… not even a chocolate bar…. Not even a soft drink…. However with that $2 we can have twice as many horses in care – rescuing them from abuse, neglect and the slaughter houses! PLEASE guys… just $2 per week will help us help these amazing animals giving them a second chance at life and love.

Please donate now, set up a direct debit for $2 per week or $8 per month and email me saveahorseaustralia@yahoo.com.au with your details so that I can provide a tax receipt. Remember that every donation over $2 is fully tax deductible and we are fully registered and sanctioned by the office of fair trading. We are one of only two fully registered horse rescue charities in QLD (the other being Charlies Angels Horse Rescue) that assist all breeds of horses.

Lucky's hard fight

Lucky is an aged emaciated STB gelding. He has been in care for about 4 weeks now and is going strong. We did think we would lose him at one point as he is fighting a chronic lung infection. I'm happy to say he is out of the woods.

Marley Update

Marley was surrendered in October 2010 and is one of our longest residents. He was surrendered with badly cracked hooves and badly damaged pedal bones including fractures. After a long time in care one of his hooves healed perfectly but sadly the other hoof was growing cracked and all of the oil, supplements and different types of shoes and boots wasn’t helping. He was under the care of 3 different farriers before we decided that enough is enough and sent him to the Gold Coast equine centre for specialist treatment. He still has a long road to recovery but being a 11 year old horse we are trying our best to get him better and sound. He is an amazing horse with a bright future.

Foster Carers Needed

SAHA horse rescue and sanctuary has always been a sanctuary based rescue, we have only ever used a very small number of Foster carers, however due to our beautiful property being listed for sale for a massive $1.6m which is completely out of our budget we are looking to find some suitable, committed, loving foster homes for our babies until which time we can sort out another property, but in saying that if the foster families are working we might just keep them as a way of expanding and rescuing more horses. If you are interested in fostering please text me your name and location and I will call you back in the evening to have a chat. You must remember that these are special horses that require special care and just putting them in a paddock with other horses and forgotten about isn’t what we want. You must live on the property (no agistment), you must be able to feed morning and night separate from your own horses (ours have special diets), you must be able to medicate if needed, provide grooming, baths and general care and also have lots of unconditional love to give. If this sounds like you – then we need you on board. Please text 0428333044 and I will call you back to discuss.

1.      What is involved in being a foster carer? Caring for one of our special rescue horses is an important and rewarding journey and you will need to be committed and reliable not just for the organisation but for the life that is in your care. What is required for each horse will vary depending on what condition they are in and what “issues” or illnesses they have at the time. One rescue horse might be in poor condition, another may have an injury or illness and one might have emotional issues. We do our best to match up each rescue horse with the carers abilities and confidence levels. The carer will be required to sign a liability waiver and a carers contract and agree to keep the horse in accordance to the organisations code of conduct, and report to the field officer about how their horse is progressing. We will come and meet you in person and inspect your property before sending a rescue horse to you.

2.      What are the expenses involved? All expenses relating to the rescue horse are covered by the organisation. If you are not located on the Gold Coast and we cannot get feed delivered to you or you are not using one of our farriers or specialist and you do have to pay for something out of your own pocket then you are required to keep the receipts so that we can write you a cheque for the out of pocket expense. This can normally take up to 4 weeks to be re-imbursed.

3.      What is the selection process? First of all you must live in South East QLD and we will take preference to people on the Gold Coast or within 1 hour drive. This is so that I or a field officer can get to you quickly if there is an emergency and so that we can still use our amazing team of specialist vets, farriers and equine therapists.

4.      4. What time frame do you keep the horse for? Rescue horses stay with us until they are fully rehabilitated. We are looking for long term foster carers or short term depending on the horse’s needs. Each horse is different.

5.      5. If need arises can the horse be returned? Yes, the contract that you sign will be as the carer only, and if you feel that you cannot take care of the horse 100% providing the care needed, then the horse is to be returned immediately.

Update on Benji

This beautiful boy came to me in September 2011 in an emaciated condition. He had been through a few hands but no one could seem to get any weight on him. We took him on and he is just amazing now. Benji is a high maintenance horse though and must always have 2 hard feeds per day to keep the weight on him. If he misses a meal he will drop weight. He is 25 years old, 16.2hh and going strong.

New Rescue Billy Bob

Billy Bob was surrendered due to having a hoof injury and his current owner couldn't care for him any more. His actual owner sadly died suddenly a few years ago and his partner kept Billy Bob but sadly couldn't give him what he needed. He is a STB who is around 20 years old and sadly has ring bone and arthritis in his back legs. We have started him on our awesome herbal plan which would work wonders. Billy Bob has fit right in with Benji and Jet and who are both 25 years old and the three old men just plod around the property together on their little adventures all day. They are like the 3 stooges.

Billy Bob is currently looking for sponsors at $10 per week. If you can help please set up a direct debit into the bank account below and please use your surname and "BILLY" as the reference. Also, please email me saveahorseaustralia@yahoo.com.au to let us know that you will be sponsoring him. Thank you so much for your kind support and for helping us help the horses xxx

Rescue Horse Barney

Barney was rescued OTT when he was on his way to the slaughter house but the young girl who rescued him couldn't keep him so he was surrendered to us. He is 4 years old and broken to saddle but very green. Barney is coated in itch but his beautiful soft temperament makes doing anything with him a breeze.

RIP Jack

Jack was surrendered with grey horse melanoma which were growing too fast and too quick. Sadly the big one on his head started to open up and he was in pain. The vet suggested putting him to sleep. He was only 12 years old. This photo was taken when Jack was used in a photo shoot with the beautiful pin up model Miss Amanda. Sadly, Jack was put to sleep at 1pm on Feb 13th, he was buried next to Tess under the beautiful big tree in our main paddock. He is no longer in pain. RIP beautiful boy

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to rainbow bridge and bring you home again.
sad farewell words were spoken, a sad and long good-bye,
You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why.
My heart's still active in sadness, and secret tears still flow;
What it meant to lose you no one can ever know.
But now I know you want me to mourn for you no more,
To remember all the happy times; life still has much in store.
Since you'll never be forgotten, I pledge to you today:
A hallowed place within my heart is where you'll always stay.

RIP Baby Boy
