Rescue Horse of the Week ~ Coco 2010

Each week we will profile a rescue horse from the past with an update on how the horse is going now.. This week we will profile a very special mare ~ COCO 2010

In March 2010 Coco was surrendered to S.A.H.A. Her owner was moving and couldnt take Coco with her. She told me that she got Coco from the RSPCA as a companion horse and that she hadnt been ridden in a while. I asked my good friend Tegan to pick her up for me along with an old STB gelding and after she delivered Coco and drove home, Teg's decided that she wanted to adopt Coco for her young daughter to ride. Coco was a little darling to ride, just a pain to saddle up. 3 weeks ago, and after showing no sign (except a fat belly) of being in foal, Coco gave birth one night to a dear little filly foal.. WHAT A SURPRISE.. Yes, by the big belly she had she did look infoal but the lady who surrendered her said that she had her over 1 year and that she couldnt be in foal so i didnt  scan her. I have had many old broodmares come in with massive bellies and they weren't infoal, so i just put it down to a big broodmare belly. It wasnt until after she foaled that she started to drop milk etc. It was a wonderful surprise and the little foal is now called "Prized Possession" or "Possum" for short.

THOROUGHBRED – black/brown 16hh mare, 9 yr old, not broken in, healthy and in great condition, she is rugged and able to be caught in large paddock, quiet to handle, leads well, I rescued her a couple of years ago but I haven’t had the money or time to break her in. Update on my rescue horses

BRANDY sadly as most of you know, we lost our beautiful Brandy Pants. She suffered a massive seizure and was euthinaised. She is very much missed and we will be leaving her paddock and stable empty for 1 month to greive.

GRANDMA was at the Gympie sales on the 7th of August and was bought by Rathdowney Knackery but with the amazing supoort from you guys, she is now safe in my stables. She arrived last Thursday and today she came galloping from one side of the property to the other to steal all of my carrots and oat treats before i could get to the other horses. She nah's like mad, loves her food and falls asleep while being groomed. She is an amazing old lady and a real character. She did learn how to undo her stable door and i found her all the way in the feed room with her head in a bag of lucerne chaff and nah'ed so quitetly to me when i caught her.. Cheeky girl. She loves her fleece rug and warm stable at night and is currently paddocked alone.

HOPE was in the paddock with MA but Hope was kicking and biting her so we seperated them. Hope is still suffering from depression and today she charged at Ma wanting to bite her while she was being lead. She needs lots of love and affection but isnt responding to well to it. Im going to just let her settle in for a few more weeks before doing anything with her. She doesnt enjoy the stable so is just paddocked.. She is a sweet little thing, just a lot of emotional healing is needed...

CHANCE is pracing around the place like he is 2 years old and has taken a liking to Gabby, who is HIS MARE.. If i take her out of her paddock and chance cant see her from his, he goes mad.. Its funny to watch and when i put Gabby back, she runs over to Chances paddock and bites him hard..

HELIX is still a naughty pony... :-)) He gets into everything, I did lunge him for the first time and he wasnt to keen on it.. He decided that after 2 laps he wanted to lay down and wouldnt get up AT ALL.. Not even for lucerne hay.. He is to smart for his own good and 100% spoilt by Carol..

THE GIRLS ~ JUNE & GABBY who are both rugged at night and paddock during the day have the tinniest bit of rain scald from the pouring rain and FREYA who isnt rugged doesnt have any... Weird!! Bloody TB's!! FREYA for the first time ever will now take carrots out of my hand and will stand there while i stroke her face.. Now thats progress.. She does need her feet done SO badly tho, im looking for a farrier who will spend a bit of time with her first.. So please let me know if you know anyone...

WHISKEY has gone up to Ryley's house to keep KRYSTAL company.. YAY... Happy ponies and all Foster horses are doing well...

Rescued from Rathdowney Knackery

This beautiful old girl sold through the Gympie sales to Rathdowney Knackery for $50... With the help of many supporters who gave some of their hard earned money and a massive thanks to Katie for picking her up, this beautiful old mare has been saved. :-))

All of my wonderful supporters have even named her "Grandma" or "ma" for short. She is a dear old girl and will be arriving on Thursday.

A massive massive thanks to EVERYONE involved in helping with this rescue, you are all amazing.

R.I.P My beautiful Miss Brandy pants, you were a massive part of my life and you will remain in my heart forever... May you run free in the green pastures of rainbow bridge....

Miss Brandy came to me in October last year with a massive skin infection, but she had many other under lying problems so we retired her with us... Yesterday Brandy suffered a massive seizure and she didnt recover... She was euthinaised at 1.10pm on the 10th of August and she was a real little lady right until the end. RIP my little princess....

Jake is a 2 year old TB gelding, he was going to be dogged by his training stud due to having broken wind, however, since he has been rescued he has not weezed once. I would say it was due to the dusty stable he spent 23 hours a day in. Jake is a quite boy and would suit anything really, but needs someone experienced to further him. He is OTT and is slightly underweight. He is in Laidley area Brisbane Please call his owner Iain 0421678712

Rescue Horse of the Week ~Gypsy 1995

Each week we will profile a rescue horse from the past with an update on how the horse is going now. I thought due to this being a new blog i would start with the first ever rescue horse from 1995.

GYPSY ~ This beautiful palomino QH mare was rescued with an appy stallion from the Narrandera sale yards back in 1995. She was my first ever rescue and i was still in high school at the time, having saved all of my money to rescue her and her pen mate who i named Midnight Moonlight. She was in extremely poor condition and being an aged mare it did take her a while to put on weight but she fast became my best friend and i knew then that she would stay forever. Midnight was re-homed to a lovely lady who ended up gelding him and doing pony club. In 1996 i moved to QLD to finish high school and a very good friend looked after Gypsy for me until i could save the money to transport her up. In 1997 I moved Gypsy to the Gold Coast but sadly in 1998 she was stolen from a paddock in Coomera. I searched everywhere for Gypsy and in 2001 i posted an add in the equine search section of Horse Deals. I had a call from a lady who had Gypsy, she bought her from someone in QLD but moved her to Grafton NSW. Sadly she had Gypsy put to sleep only 3 months before i posted the add. It was heartbreaking but this lady promised me that she was loved right up until her last days. Gypsy was my first rescue, she was the most beautiful old soul and she was my best friend. Gypsy cost me $75 back than and she is the main reason why im still rescuing horses today. R.I.P my beautiful mate..

Gympie Dogger Sales 7th August 2010

This Sat the 7th of August is the 3rd Gympie dogger sales for the year. Please if you are thinking about a new best friend consider buying a dogger horse. Many amazing horses come out of the dogger pens but if you're not very experienced please make sure you take someone who is. Some horses are there due to sickness or injury and some due to behaviour problems. I have posted some photos below of the Gympie sale back in Feb 2010. If you cant make the sale but still want to rescue a horse, the local knackery's buy most of the horses but will only sell them for what they are worth in meat which is $400-$600.
