Mishka is looking for sponsorship

Beautiful Mishka was surrendered only about 5 weeks ago when she had been abandoned in a paddock at an agistment centre. When she arrived she had a massive lump on her shoulder which I thought was a sarcoid but wanted to have a biopsy done before I started treating it. The biopsy came back that it wasn't a sarciod but was a malignant sarcoma.

Mishky is 24 years old and much to old for surgery so we have been treating her with Frankincense oil and sarco-41 with great success. I'm very happy with the progress however Mishky's treatment is quite expensive and we also have another horse having the same treatment done.

Frankincense oil is $130 for a 15ml bottle and we are using 1 per week. The Sarco-41 is $120 for the tubes which we are also using 1 per week.

We are looking for 10 sponsors who can pay $10 per week.

Bandit is looking for a forever home

Bandit's registered name is "Riverstone" and is 15.2hh and 9 years old. He is a stunning horse and would make a perfect Hack, Dressage or pleasure mount. Bandit has a calcified ligament in his pelvis which doesn't stop him for being ridden and he is sound he just isn't suitable for PC, Jumping or sporting unless his muscles are built up and he is in fit working condition.

He is a sweet boy who just loves affection and is top of the peaking order and will stand up to any horse that tries to put it over him. When he hasn't been worked in a while he can be quite fresh and I always lunge him before riding if he hasn't been ridden in a while. His first time under saddle went really well and he didn't buck, rare or even pigroot. He has been worked and ridden quite a bit since then. In saying that he is also very OTT and hasn't learnt anything other than race so he would best suit someone who is experienced enough to teach him a few things.

He is stunning with no blemishes and would make a great little hack! Bandit is easy to float, shoe, wash, groom, ride, handle and is just a pleasure to own. He has never bitten or kicked and other than being bossy at feed time he has no bad vices.

Midi is looking for a forever home

Beautiful Midi is still looking for a loving new home. She is 15hh, about 16 years old and she is a grey Anglo Arab. Midi is an absolute gem to do anything with, she loves attention and groom time and gets jealous if you pay too much attention to the other horses. She is dying for the chance to bond with someone special. Midi does suffer for a little itch on her shoulder and neck so she will need to be rugged but its def not server and is maintained with medicated shampoo and rugging. She also has some floating issues which we have been working her through. She will load ok but once you go to get the tailgate up she freaks and backs out a million miles an hour, on the other hand though sometimes she stands in their perfectly. Midi can be aggressive to other horses but only ever at feed time, in saying that she isn’t top of the peaking order but will hold her own pretty well in a herd. Under saddle she is fresh and will jig jog for a while before settling down. She does toss her head a little at the beginning but this also settles in time and she is perfect for pleasure riding, trail riding and just a lovely fun horse for someone to love and work with.

Midi has had her teeth done, she has been on a 6 weekly worming program and has been vaccinated. She is a good doer and an easy horse to love and care for. Midi is rugged in a cotton during the day and a 180g turnout rug at night. She was just in a rainsheet for a while but just last week we started rugging her in something a little thicker. Whiskey Has His Eye Removed

Whiskey has had surgery to remove his eye and is going really well. He will have one more round of Chemotherapy and should be home in 3 weeks to retire. Whiskey will be going on a full detox and treated with some natural cancer killing supplements as well. He will be treated with aromatherapy oils, aloe vera juice, apricot kernels and herbs to help heal his body and prevent the cancer from coming back, he will also be on a healing plan from “heal with ease”.

We are looking forward to having Whiskey home soon and a massive thank you to the amazing vets and nurses at Manly Road Horse Hospital for doing everything they can to help Whiskey, especially his eye specialist Pauline Gaven.

Whiskey’s horse hospital bill is quite large and the current outstanding amount which includes this last lot of surgery is $5,603.89 if you can help out with a tax deductible donation that would be just amazing. Mishka and Jacks Vet Update

Last week we had the vet come out to take a biopsy of Jack’s lumps and Mishka’s lump which I thought was a sarciod. The results were a bit of a shock actually and wasn’t at all what we expected.
Jack has grey horse melanoma’s which are benign but two of them are far too large to remove. They will continue to grow until they start effecting vital organs in which case he will then need to be euthanized.
Mishka’s lump isn’t a sarcoid and is actually a sarcoma which is malignant. She is a 24 year old horse and surgery isn’t an option.

With both Mishka and Jack we have decided to treat both of their lumps with natural products that have been proven to kill cancer and reduce the size of benign and malignant tumors. Both horses will go on a full detox and will be treated with Frankincense oil, aloe vera juice, apricot kernels, cancema cream as well as a healing plan from “heal with ease”.

I will be taking progress photos of each horses tumors and will be keeping a diary which I will publish on this website once we have some results.

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain with this exercise and fingers crossed we can do something to help both horses live out there days happy and healthy.

Vet Update

Whiskey went back to Manly Rd Horse Hospital today for more surgery. I will keep you all posted on how he goes. We will also be posting their account details soon so that people can donated directly onto the account if they wish to help. We can offer tax receipts as well. Massive thank you to eye specialist Pauline Gaven who has given us a 50% discount of our bill because Whiskey is a rescue horse. We are so grateful to Pauline and to Manly rd Horse Hospital. Whiskey still needs more surgery which will see our account go up even more. Our current outstanding amount with Manly Rd Horse Hospital is $6482. I will post more details on how you can help soon.

Massive thanks to everyone who has helped so far, because of your kind donations we were able to save Chicky's life. Chicky had surgery two months ago for the same type of cancer and is now doing really well in a new home. xx

Michael Higgin's is coming to our Gilston Rehab centre tomorrow to biopsy Jack's face. He is also doing 4 of our horses teeth and taking bloods from Jet. I will post an update and let everyone know how they are all doing.

Oxenford Pony Club Oldies Day

On the 22nd of May the we all went to the Oxenford Pony Club Oldies day. Abbey's first Pony Club Day, Clyde and Bobbie were there. Adonis was going to come but hurt his shoulder the day before.

It was a great day all round, Cindy got third over all in intermediate with Junior, Joanne got third over all in beginners with Bobbie, Carol won ribbons on Abbey and Pete won ribbons on Clyde. I love seeing our rescue horses doing so well in the show ring and at pony club.

New Rescue Horse

Jack was surrendered due to some lumps on his body. We are not sure what they are yet and the vet is booked into do biopsy's on Wednesday. He will have his teeth done on the same day. His name is "Tupi Family" or Jack for short :-) 12 year old TB gelding about 16hh.

Tyson Update

Tyson is a 3 year old pure bred QH gelding who has gone blind in both eyes. We had the very awesome eye specialist assess him and sadly his blindness is from optic nerve damage which she thinks was caused by an injury when he was a foal. She said the most common cause is rearing up and falling over backwards banging the head and tearing the optic nerve. This is irreversible and he will always be blind. She did advise us to have him put to sleep. The good news is that Tyson can see slightly out of one eye (shadows and movements). We have contacted the blind horse association which is an amazing association, please have a look at their website. Its very inspirational.

We have found Tyson a suitable home. The wonderful Jodie Alderton impairments. Jodie has a number of rescue horses with disabilities where the children who she works with can relate to each horse. If and when Tyson goes completely blind and becomes a danger to himself and others we will assist Jodie in having Tyson put to sleep. Currently, we have both decided that he isn't ready to go to horsey heaven yet and I will keep you all up to date with how he is going. Tyson will be floated to Jodie's healing centre on Saturday which is less than 5 minutes drive from our Gilston Rehabilitation Centre.

Update on Freya

Freya's Story written just after she was rescued:
I first saw Freya at the Gympie Sales on the 20th of Feb 2010. I went there to take photo's for my "say no to the slaughter of horses" facebook group page and was not going to buy a horse due to having enough rescues, however, i fell in love with her and her baby foal. Trying to be strong i left without buying her but on the journey home and for days after i was regretting leaving her there. I was informed that she was purchased by Rathdowney knackery so i called them and offered to buy her. They wanted $400 for her but her foal has already been killed. A few people donated money to save Freya and on the 28th of Feb 2010 at 11am i drove to Rathdowney to pick her up. It was a very long day and she was tired, scared and weak. She wouldn't load onto the float and the two men helping me actually lifted her rear legs and bum and carried her onto the float. She travelled well was very skinny and very weak but an amazing, loving horse that has a very forgiving heart. Even when she was scared as hell, she didn't even try to kick nor did she show any nasty side, just an amazing natured horse... I named her freya after the goddess of love and beauty.

Thank you to Melissa who helped me save her from the knackery on kill day, its something not to many people can do and thank you to everyone who donated money. Freya is alive today because of your kindness...

Update on Freya's Foal who we thought was dead: (posted in March on this web page)
As many of you would remember back on the 20th of Feb 2010 I went to the Gympie sales and fell in love with a beautiful Grey mare and her foal. I wasn't able to stay for the auction due to having a sick horse at home but this mare really played on my mind and i couldn't stop thinking about her. The next day I searched every knackery and dogger trying to find out who bought her and I found her at Rathdowney knackery. She was bought for $90 and was completely unhandled. The knackery owner told me that her little foal had been injured and needed to be killed but she was $400 to rescue.

Myself and the lovely Melissa made the journey out to Rathdowney to rescue her and 7 months later she was re-homed. During her rehabilitation a lovely lady called "Mandy" actually contacted me and told me that she bought the little foal off Rathdowney at the Gympie sales and that he had indeed been rescued, he was about 2 months old.

Well this is an update on how the little foal is doing. Mandy named him Seal and he is now a yearling but he was re-homed to another lovely lady who has re-named him Milo. He was bay, went black and is now greying out. He is happy and very healthy and going so well.

FREYA UPDATE: Its been 8 months since Freya was re-homed and 14 months since she was rescued. She is doing so well and is so very loved by her new mummy. I'm more than happy with Freya's home, she couldn't have found a better home. Massive thank you to everyone involved in her rescue and to her new mummy who loves her so much and gives her everything she needs and wants. Freya is an amazing horse and deserves the perfect home she got. xxxx

New Rescue Horses

Tyson is 3 year old QH gelding 14hh who was surrendered with some vision problems. The vet seems to think he is totally blind and that it may be genetic which is very sad considering his young age. We have decided to take him to an eye specialist to see whether she can shed some light on his situation and I have been in contact with the blind horse association. I will keep you all posted.

Mishka was also surrendered on the same day as Tyson. We had a lovely lady go over to pick Tyson up and when she did the owner of the Agistment centre asked if we could take an old mare who had been abandoned there. She is 24 years old, 16hh who is in light condition with the worst hooves I have seen in a while. She also has a very large nasty sarcoid on her shoulder. The poor old girl is a real sweetheart though and hopefully we can find her a nice retirement home.
